Billericay Educational Consortium

Billericay Educational Consortium was one of two organisations to pioneer the concept of School Centred Initial Teacher Training in 1994 as we wanted to create a training experience which focused on trainees as individuals and to offer a great opportunity to work with experienced school mentors who are passionate about developing outstanding and confident Newly Qualified Teachers.

Our training programme has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted for the last 3 inspections and placed in the top five of the ‘Good Teacher Training Guide’ for the past 10 years.  We offer a flexible approach through a range of full and part time courses to meet individual needs.

Our experience tells us that our trainees are looking for quality workshops, carefully identified placements, supportive mentoring, individual pastoral support and academic support in writing assignments. Our focus is on you as an individual, and following your interview we start working with you on a tailor-made training programme.

Our workshops are delivered by outstanding and knowledgeable teachers, providing you with a wealth of ideas to inspire pupil learning.  We believe having the  opportunity to experience other settings is important to build your confidence and expertise.  That is why we arrange for you to visit a special school, a pupil referral unit, houses of parliament and an inner city school where you will be working with pupils where English is not their first language.

Our mentoring team are at the heart of our programme and you will be assigned four mentors to support you through the programme, covering your time in school and support in completing the Postgraduate Certificate in Education, an academic award, attracting 60 Master credits. This provides an ideal opportunity to bring together the very best of school experience and academic study.

Our aim is to ensure trainees  feel confident and fully prepared to start their teaching career.  Our teaching school will continue to support you through the whole of your career with the opportunity to experience tailor made courses focussing on areas of your practice you are looking to further develop.
