Newsletter - Issue 10: Spring Term 2024
Welcome
We're delighted to announce that Saffron Teaching School Hub has been redesignated by the DfE as the Teaching School Hub for Braintree, Chelmsford, Epping Forest, Harlow and Uttlesford for the next four years. This follows the tendering process that went out to schools and Trusts in September 2023.
We were originally designated as one of six ‘Test and Learn’ Hubs in 2020, becoming one of 87 Hubs in the national roll-out in 2021. We are thrilled to continue supporting professional learning, collegiality and best practice through the delivery of the Golden Thread set out in the DfE’s Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategy. It is a privilege to support colleagues from the start of their careers in their ITT training through to ECT induction and ongoing development through the growing NPQ suite of programmes to senior leadership and beyond.
The team at Saffron Teaching School Hub are incredibly excited to build on the strong foundations and partnerships developed so far to support the profession in developing the teachers and leaders our pupils deserve. We look forward to working with everyone for another four years.
Saffron Teaching School Hub - The Golden Thread
If you have questions, you can visit the Saffron TS Hub website or contact us – we love to hear from you with your questions and feedback.
Wishing you a happy Easter and a well deserved break when it comes.

Early Career Professional Development Programme
Spring Term ECT1 Conferences
Our ECT1s have had the opportunity to attend a regional event this term. We offered three venues on different dates and had over 50 ECTs at each one. This was an invaluable opportunity for ECTs to talk to each other and catch up with teachers from their ITT programmes last year.
We are hugely grateful to those schools who offer us space for these conferences and our local events, and to our team of expert facilitators.
Our ECTs are proving to be a talented bunch! The quality of their discussions and their reflections at these training events has been exceptional. It's clear that ECTs are benefitting from the new induction framework and the support they are getting in school.

Computing Hub - London, Hertfordshire & Essex
Early Career and Trainee Teachers
The National Centre for Computing Education supports trainee and early career teachers at all levels to meet and evidence the teacher standards. The early careers support guidance maps out the NCCE offer against the eight areas of performance you are working to achieve.
Why develop computing as a subject?
- It can increase your versatility as a qualified teacher by developing your computational knowledge and giving you transferable life skills.
- There is a shortage of computing teachers – adding computing to your CV may improve employability and job security.
Professional development
Strong subject knowledge is paramount to successfully delivering any area of the curriculum. Your first step to success is to access the DfE funded, KS3 and GCSE Computer Science nationally recognised certificate, which will develop your subject knowledge up to GCSE. This computing pathway is a great way for non-specialist trainees or early career teachers to engage with the programme.
Promoting effective computing pedagogy
Effective pedagogy is at the heart of good teaching and learning; successful computing teachers combine their knowledge of the subject with evidence-based teaching practices. Click here to learn more.
