Newsletter - Autumn Term 2024

Welcome to the Autumn Term edition of the Saffron Teaching School Hub newsletter. Christmas is still out of sight but we can feel it is fast approaching!

This time of year through to spring is the key window for ITT recruitment. There are a number of ITT recruitment events this term, including the 'Train to Teach in Essex' event on 2 December at Beaulieu Park School, Chelmsford. All three Essex Teaching School Hubs will be in attendance, together with local SCITTs and Essex LA.

We waited a long time for Essex to have a Research School and we are fortunate to now have one. Please do take time to read about Essex Research School's Leadership Series.

If you have questions, you can visit the Saffron TS Hub website or contact us – we love to hear from you with your questions and feedback.

I hope the rest of your term goes well.

Doug Brechin, Director, Saffron Teaching School Hub

Initial Teacher Training

Saffron Teaching School Hub is committed to supporting the recruitment and retention of teachers across our region. We wholeheartedly believe that teaching is a rich, exciting and rewarding career, and through our Core Values of Excellence in Education, Collaborative and Inclusive Communities and Responsive and Service-Oriented support, we work with ITT providers, school leaders and local stakeholders to recruit brilliant teachers for our settings.

We have been working with West Essex SCITT and the DEEP Consortium to establish a new ITT provision in the Greater Dunmow Area. DEEP (Dunmow Excellence in Education Partnership) is a shining example of the power of partnership, working collegiately to introduce a tailored programme of training which will not only reflect the needs of their communities, but also provide a wealth of opportunities for people to train, teach and work in their local schools.

Find out more about the DEEP programme here.

We're also working in collaboration with the Harris Chafford Hundred South Essex and Unity Teaching School Hubs to host a Train to Teach in Essex event on 2 December at Beaulieu Park School, Chelmsford.

Attendees will be able to find out about a wide range of training opportunities within their area, speak to experts from providers across Essex, and find out how to sign up for teacher training programmes.

Event details here: Train to Teach in Essex event

If you’d like to talk about getting involved in ITT, contact our Deputy Director, Kerrie McGivern.
