Matrix Maths Hub

The Maths Hubs programme is Department for Education funded and led by the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics). We bring together mathematics education professionals in a collaborative national network of 40 Hubs each locally led by an outstanding school or college, to develop and spread excellent practice, for the benefit of all pupils and students.

The Matrix Maths Hub supports schools and colleges to achieve excellence in mathematics education from Early Years to post-16. We are based in Bishop’s Stortford at The Hertfordshire and Essex High School.

Saffron Teaching School Hub areas covered:

  • The Matrix Maths Hub covers Harlow and the whole of Hertfordshire.
  • Braintree, Chelmsford, Epping Forest and Uttlesford are covered by the Venn Essex Maths Hub.

Matrix Maths Hub - Our 2025-26 Work Groups

We offer Subject Knowledge courses for teachers and teaching assistants in Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Post-16 phases, including Work Groups specifically for Early Career Teachers. 

Bookings have now closed for most of our 2024-25 Work Groups but we are now accepting expressions of interest for 2025-26.

Secondary Teaching for Mastery Sustaining: 'Developing Mathematical Thinking' Work Group

Places are still available on our Developing Mathematical Thinking Work Group which is being offered exclusively to schools that have previously participated in our Teaching for Mastery Development programme. 

In this Work Group you will be supported to help your students develop a deep, secure and connected understanding of the maths they are learning.
