Saffron Teaching School Hub Courses  

KS2 French — September 2021

This event will take place between 4:00pm and 6:00pm with Lower KS2 French starting on Wednesday 22nd September 2021 and Upper KS2 French starting on Monday 27th September 2021.

Course delivered by the Saffron Teaching School Hub and Rachel Hawkes.

The Saffron Teaching School Hub are working in partnership with Rachel Hawkes, Co-director of NCELP to deliver DfE approved KS2 French CPD course starting in the Autumn term 2021.

KS2 French will be delivered online over 18 sessions by our French Tutor Katherine Monument throughout the next academic year, both courses are aimed at subject specialist KS2 primary teachers.

What does the course offer?

  • French language development combined with step-by-step knowledge of KS2 lesson content and how to teach it.
  • Free 4 year scheme of work with full lesson resources (including native audio) available for all teachers to use.

Course Outline

The course is aligned with KS2 Programme of Study, the Ofsted Framework and the Early Careers Framework. The course is available at the following two levels:

  • Lower KS2 - Year 3 and Year 4
  • Upper KS2 - Year 5 and Year 6

Course Date and Time

Lower KS2  - Starts Wednesday 22 September 2021 (4.00pm – 6.00pm) and thereafter fortnightly on Mondays
Upper KS2 – Starts Monday 27 September 2021 (4.00pm – 6.00pm) and thereafter fortnightly on Mondays

Note: due to bank holidays there are two changes to the above rule when courses will take place on a Tuesday and Wednesday (Tuesday 8th February and Wednesday 6th July) a full list of the 18 session dates will be sent to each teacher on registration.

The Chartered College Certificate in Evidence-Informed Practice (CCoT1) September 2021

Interested in developing your expertise in using evidence to inform your practice?

What does the course offer?

The Certificate in Evidence-Informed Practice is perfect for teachers and leaders wishing to develop their understanding of evidence-informed practice and gain recognition for their expertise.

Successful completion awards participants with a certificate in evidence-informed practice and credits towards Chartered Status.

Course Outline

During this 3 month online programme you will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of evidence-informed practice. During the programme you’ll learn about and discuss:

• evidence-based pedagogies

• engaging with evidence

• educational myths and misinterpretations

• key debates in education

The programme ends with an innovative assessment that will enable you to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise in evidence-informed practice. Upon successful completion of this, you will be awarded The Chartered College Certificate in Evidence-Informed Practice and will also receive credits towards Chartered Status

Online HLTA Status Course - October 2021

Course delivered by the Saffron Teaching School Hub and Best Practice Network

The Saffron Teaching School Hub is working in partnership with Best Practice Network (BPN) to deliver the Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Status course in the Autumn term 2021.

This seven-part course will be delivered online and is aimed at Teaching Assistants looking for the next step in their career. HLTAs are able to work closely with teachers to raise standards and help each learner reach their potential. HLTA is a nationally recognised professional status which benefits staff and schools, enhancing knowledge, expertise and skills in supporting learning and reducing teacher workload. HLTAs can teach whole classes under the direction of the class teacher and cover sickness and INSET supply requirements.

All applicants must have:

  1. Some experience of leading whole class learning with no teacher present.
  2. Level 2 in Maths and English (A-C grade) — if you do not have this, we can help you gain equivalent qualifications - please ask when booking.

The course consists of seven online sessions delivered throughout the Autumn term as follows:

  • Five half-day sessions delivered by Essex specialist Sue Brown who will guide the Teaching Assistants through the individual tasks and will be on hand for any questions/help throughout the course.  
  • Two all-day sessions delivered by Best Practice Network.
  • Participants must attend all seven sessions.

Assessment

On completion of the course, participants will be assessed and awarded the HLTA Status.

Course Fee

The cost of the course is £1,050 per participant.

If participants do not have GCSE Maths or English grade A-C, there will be an additional charge of £25 to take the required English or Maths test or £40 to take both tests.

Online Mental Health First Aid: Youth Champion Course — October 2021

This event will take place between 9:00am and 5:00pm on 01/10/2021

Course delivered by the Saffron Teaching School Hub and Jo Morton-Brown

The goal of this one-day online course is to raise awareness of mental health issues and give you the skills, confidence and knowledge to support a young person who may be suffering or in a crisis.

What does the course offer?

  • An understanding of common mental health issues and how they affect young people.
  • The ability to spot signs of mental ill health in young people and guide them to a place of support.
  • Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness.
  • Skills to support wellbeing.

Course Outline

Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities. Everyone who completes the course receives:

  • A certificate f attendance to say you are a ‘Youth MHFA Champion’.
  • A Youth MHFA manual to refer to whenever you need it.

Who presents the course?

Jo Morton-Brown is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy.  Working as an Emotional Health Practitioner, Jo is a passionate and committed advocate for the improvement of mental health. Combining her academic knowledge with first-hand experience, she can offer fellow professionals working with children and their families the chance to gain targeted mental health and emotional wellbeing training.

Epping Forest Schools Partnership Trust Teaching and Learning School (EFSPT) CPD Courses

EFSPT is a Multi-Academy Trust of 17 schools: 12 primary schools, 3 infant schools, 1 junior school and 1 special school. Our schools vary in size from a three form entry primary school to a single form entry infant school. Our special school, Oak View, is an all age (3-19), specialist provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs. This includes those with severe and complex needs and pupils within the autistic spectrum.

Saffron Alliance CPD Courses

Developing the Ideal Secondary Assessment and Tracking System - 1st December 2021

Course Outline

A 2-hour online course run by Saffron Walden County High School, which was recently featured in Tom Sherrington’s blog: “An Exemplary School: The Learning Rainforest made real”.

This course will provide an insight into how schools can:

  • Develop a robust and effective whole school assessment system
  • Allow departments to have assessment systems that suit them
  • Provide clear and informative attainment and progress information for parents and students
  • Ensure teachers can enter data efficiently
  • Have a KS3 assessment policy that doesn’t rely on “spurious flight paths”
  • Produce tracking data that is user-friendly and gives meaningful and useful data to teachers, curriculum and pastoral leaders
  • Shape a marking policy that respects teachers’ wellbeing while providing positive and formative feedback to students that enables them to ‘close the gaps’ in their learning

Adult Mindfulness Course - Summer Term 2022

Course Outline

This course offers a fresh take on the traditional eight-week MBSR/CT curriculum and approach and aims to make mindfulness as accessible and effective as possible for adults in school settings. Teaching mindfulness to staff promotes health and well-being among the wider staff body as well as starting more staff members on their journey towards eligibility to train to teach mindfulness to students. The course will run for 8 weeks and each session is 90 minutes long.
