NITE: National Institute of Teaching & Education, part of the Coventry University Group

The National Institute of Teaching and Education (NITE) is a leading international provider of initial teacher training and postgraduate degrees in education and educational leadership. Coventry University was rated gold overall in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023.

Why train with NITE?

Our innovative PGCE with QTS course enables you to train to teach in any location in England. This means you will spend five days a week learning your craft in the classroom, supported by your in-school mentor. Working five days in-school enables our trainees to be fully immersed in working school life and gain the knowledge and confidence that can only be obtained by experience.

Online doesn’t mean remote

Course content is delivered via our online platforms which enables you to apply theory to your teaching straight away, and you are not required to attend weekly lectures or long periods of study on campus. All our trainees attend a two-day face-to-face residential induction at the beginning of their course (cost included in course fee). This provides the opportunity for trainees to establish relationships with their tutors, and peers from all around the country.

Comprehensive support

Students are assigned a personal university tutor (ULM) who supports both you and your in-school mentor via regular online meetings and one-to-one sessions. Our students often cite the strong sense of community, engagement and support from their tutors and peers, which they tell us deepens understanding, and encourages critical thinking, supporting academic and practical development.

Train where you are

We have established partnerships with schools in your local area, and each term add more partner schools. If you already have a relationship with a school, and they are happy to accommodate your training, we would be able to partner with them on your behalf.

Flexibility and choice

We offer three starting dates a year and you can choose full-time (1 year) or part-time (2 years) routes. The course is offered at primary level (for trainees teaching pupils aged 5-11) and in a range of subjects at secondary level (for trainees teaching pupils aged 11-16 or 11-18). The course is also offered for the 14-19 age range in subjects which are usually only taught in Key Stages 4 and 5.

NITE Expertise

The course is designed and delivered by some of the country’s leading teachers and educators, so you can be assured that the training you receive is of the highest quality. The course provides 60 Level 7 credits that may be transferred as prior learning credits for future study at master’s degree level. We will work very closely with your school throughout your course to ensure that you and they receive all the support needed for you to become a successful teacher.
