Parental Leave Group Coaching Programme

The MTPT Project’s Parental Leave Group Coaching Programme will be running throughout the academic year 2024-25. Supported by a number of Teaching School Hubs in the East of England, this three-session programme offers colleagues in the East of England empowering group coaching when they are on maternity, adoption or shared parental leave.

Ensuring the programme is fully-funded for state school colleagues is just one of the ways that Teaching School Hubs in the region are addressing the recommendation in the recent Missing Mothers report by The New Britain Project and The MTPT Project, which called for “a comprehensive coaching programme for mothers during, and post-maternity leave”. The report found that only 38% of mother-teachers surveyed were satisfied with the maternity leave and transition support provided by their school.

Abbi Bansropun, an Essex-based secondary senior leader, completed the Parental Leave group coaching programme in 2024.  She said: “The coaching was really well planned.  Sessions were clearly carefully considered and well executed.  They were really helpful in facilitating meaningful reflection and future goal-setting.”

Abbi found that the coaching gave her an increased sense of confidence and positivity during her maternity leave, supporting her to clarify her priorities and set and maintain boundaries to protect them.  She loved widening her professional network through the community that the coaching programme provided and made a flexible working request whilst completing the programme.
