Following the success of English Hub primary school support, the DfE has expanded the programme to secondary schools. This new phase focuses on supporting students in KS3 who are working below the national reading standard, ensuring they quickly gain the literacy skills needed to thrive in secondary education.
From September 2026, secondary schools will be able to access additional support through the expansion of the English Hubs programme. This initiative forms part of the Department for Education's ongoing commitment to improving outcomes for pupils who struggle with reading.

We've had a fantastic week of Year 1 ECT seminars, with a clear focus on adaptive teaching, curriculum sequencing and the development of reading.
Each session was carefully designed to support ECTs in strengthening their understanding of how thoughtful curriculum planning and responsive teaching can positively impact pupils' outcomes.
It was particularly encouraging to see such high levels of engagement from our ECTs across the week. They approached the sessions with openness and professionalism, taking time to reflect on their own classroom practice, ask purposeful questions and contribute to collaborative professional dialogue with colleagues.
The seminars provided valuable opportunities to deepen pedagogical understanding, build confidence and strengthen consistency across settings. A thoroughly rewarding and impactful week of professional learning!

Stronger together: growing our NPQ Leading Teaching through partnership
Our NPQ Leading Teaching programme is a powerful example of what's possible when Teaching School Hubs work in genuine partnership.
Delivered through a strong collaboration between @inspirationtsh, Saffron Teaching School Hub and @unitytsh, and led nationally by the National Institute of Teaching, our NPQLT programme has brought colleagues together from across our regions to learn, reflect and lead together.
