Saffron Hall Trust – bringing the power of music to schools across Essex

As well as delivering the public programme of concerts, talks and events in Saffron Hall, Saffron Hall Trust (SHT) is an Arts and Education charity operating across Essex. As such, the SHT has worked in schools across the Saffron Teaching School Hub region, supporting them in harnessing the impact that engagement with music and the arts can bring – not only for its tangible musical outcomes, but also through using music to build confidence and support in areas including school engagement, wider employability skills and health and wellbeing.

Live music for primary schools across Essex

As a key partner in Essex Music Hub, SHT is delighted to be coordinating the hub’s programme of live music in primary schools accessible to all schools in the Saffron Teaching School Hub area.

The first offerings in this programme are two programmes for KS1 and KS2 designed and delivered by Britten Sinfonia - Saffron Hall’s resident orchestra. Schools are invited to register their interest for these programmes (taking place in the Summer term) now, and more offers will follow in the future.

SHT is also committed to presenting live music for schools in venues across the region. Each year there are schools performances in Saffron Hall from the likes of National Youth Orchestra, Yolanda Brown and Britten Sinfonia, which are open to all schools. SHT is working with Essex Music Hub to bring similar concerts to venues across the region.

Saffron Sounds programme for Key Stage 2

Already up and running, Saffron Sounds is a programme for Key Stage 2 featuring online resources, CPD and in-school workshops, and culminating in a live performance.

Saffron Sounds was delivered last year in Harlow, in partnership with the Playhouse, and this summer will be offered to Chelmsford schools, culminating in performances at Chelmsford Theatre featuring the fantastic Jess Gillam Ensemble. Chelmsford primary schools should keep an eye on the Saffron Hall website – or contact the Saffron Hall Trust team to be the first to receive details of this programme.

Creative Residencies projects

SHT is also committed to using the power of music participation to support students to build confidence, support school engagement, and develop wider employability schools. A recent intensive project with year nine students at Alec Hunter Academy in Braintree has resonated widely across the school and this is a strand of work the Trust is working to bring to other schools in the region in future years.
