Essex Research School update - September 2025

Latest updates from the Essex Research School - including Pupil Premium Guidance, details of upcoming 'Get to know Essex Research School' webinars in November and December and an Early Years webinar in November in partnership with the REACHout Stronger Practice Hub.

Pupil Premium Guidance

Earlier this month, the EEF published their updated Pupil Premium guidance. Here are the key points:

What’s new in the Pupil Premium guidance?

The Pupil Premium remains focused on raising educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and closing the gap between them and their more affluent peers. The updated guide lays out a clear five-step process for strategy planning and implementation:

    1. Diagnose pupils’ needs — get a strong evidence base of what your disadvantaged pupils need most.
    2. Use reliable research evidence to support your strategy.
    3. Develop your strategy in light of context, realistic capacity, and priorities.
    4. Deliver and monitor your strategy, ensuring implementation is consistent and responsive.
    5. Evaluate and sustain what’s working — and adjust or stop what isn’t. Importantly, it emphasises that strategy-development is ongoing, not a one-off event.
