Did you catch our Clips from the Classroom video, Beyond Right and Wrong (for KS1 Maths)? It explores a fresh approach to assessment in Key Stage 1, focusing less on simply whether answers are “right or wrong” and more on what children understand about the structure and reasoning of mathematics.
Some of the questions it raises:
- How do we find out what pupils already know about a mathematical concept?
- What assessment strategies enable us to see their thinking in real time?
- How can insights from such assessment feed into future planning, so teaching is more responsive to what pupils need?
