New NPQ Leading Primary Mathematics - applications open for February 2024
Earlier this year the DfE published the National Professional Qualification Framework for Leading Primary Mathematics. This provides a fifth specialist NPQ that teachers can access as part of their continuing professional development. Saffron Teaching Hub will be offering the NPQ Leading Primary Mathematics (NPQLPM) from February 2024 onwards. We are working with our local Maths Hubs to coordinate delivery of this new programme and ensure expert facilitators. The DfE is currently working with Maths Hubs to design the content on the NPQLPM.
Who is it for?
The new NPQLPM is for those who have responsibilities for leading and promoting primary mathematics across a school or are aspiring to do this. The NPQ will be aimed at those who already have a secure understanding of maths mastery approaches and will build their leadership capability to enable them to improve mastery teaching of mathematics across a school or phase. It is expected that participants will have completed a minimum of one year of the Teaching for Mastery programme or have secure mastery expertise from another equivalent programme/support.
All our specialist and leadership NPQs will remain funded to state schools (subject to conditions) for the next academic year 2024/25. In addition, an enhanced bursary for small schools is offered.
State-funded schools or state-funded 16-19 organisations who have teachers or leaders taking an NPQ in the 2023/24 academic year will receive a grant payment of:
- £800 for state-funded primary schools with 1 to 150 pupils
- £200 for state-funded primary schools 150+ pupils
- £200 for state-funded secondary schools and state-funded 16-19 educational settings with 1 to 600 pupils
